In his quilted works, artist Jesse Krimes explores absence and presence through emblematic objects, places, and animals, many of which are birds. Inspired by their symbolic power, create or choose a bird design that best represents you, then transform its image using two complementary techniques.

Using the negative shape of a stencil, screenprint a bird motif onto fabric. Then, sew the positive shape onto your composition using appliqué. The interplay of both versions of your bird silhouettes creates a dynamic quilt square with powerful symbolism.
