Reversible Summer Tank Top Sewing Workshop

June 20, 2023
3:00 pm to 5:30 pm

Usher in your summer wear with Philadelphia-based artist Niels Mitchell. Glean inspiration from the soft elegance of Gabriel Martinez’s gentleman’s dressing gown, Negligee, or the totemic strength of Tommy Joseph’s, My Ancestors, and sew your own reversible tank top that can take you from day to night or from soft to sturdy! With a wide range of woven fabrics available, learn how to use a straight stitch and back-tack, create hidden seams, and transform a pattern to fit you.

Leave with a reversible tank top and new skills to spark a summer of sewing! We’ll have sewing machines for participants to use but feel free to bring your own.

Organized in conjunction with Museum As….

About the Participants

Niels Mitchell is a DC-born, Philadelphia-based fiber artist. Their practice investigates queerness through their studies of economical and sustainable materials, with a historical lens. Often, this manifests by using secondhand materials and natural dying techniques in their practice. Their work has been shown throughout Philadelphia, PA at William Way and in the Wearable Art Show at Temple University.
