First Friday: Eyes Upon the Trees

Sure, there’s wisdom in seeing the forest for the trees, but what about slowing down and literally seeing the trees for the forest? After the artist Laura Owens completed seven identical large-scale prints on silk with embroidery, she made additions to each piece, creating seven unique variants that make up the series, “Untitled,” 2003. In doing so, Owens reflects on the individual life of each tree as time passes. In this First Friday workshop, meditate on your own close experiences with nature by creating a series of tree prints that are individualized through mixed media collage.
