This Black History Month, dive into the artistic process of nine Artists-in-Residence whose projects explore themes of historical reclamation, cultural identity, and Afrofuturism. Sift through a selection of artist boxes to uncover test prints, notes, photographs, scale models, and production materials that reveal the artists’ conceptual and material approach over the course of their residencies.

On this tour, we’ll unpack projects that explored Afrofuturism through the following artist boxes:

Yinka Shonibare: Space Walk, 2002
Carrie Mae Weems: The Apple of Adam’s Eye, 1993
Robert Pruitt: Untitled Photographs, 2011
