Summer Skill Building Series

Tie Dyeing with Indigo

July 7, 2022
3:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Adire Alabere Stitch Resist Sample, 2022. Kona cotton dyed in organic indigo. Work by Ash Limés Castellana, Museum Education Coordinator.

Indigo has a deep history around the world as well as at The Fabric Workshop and Museum. Join us in our archives to explore the artist box of Yoshiko Wada, then head to our studio to learn the basics of indigo dyeing using the tie-dye technique with raffia straw. In traditional Yoruba Indigo practice, this resist dye technique is known as Adire Oniko. Participants will receive kona cotton to create their sample and learn several tie-dye motifs.

Summer Skill Building Series
Enhance your studio or teaching practice with this five-week summer skill building series. Each week, we’ll glean inspiration from works on view in current exhibitions or from artist boxes in our archives to learn a new skill to use in the classroom or your own personal art practice.
