About the Participants
Qualeasha Wood (b. 1996, Long Branch, NJ) lives and works in Philadelphia. Her creative practice contends with the entanglements of digital self-fashioning and Black femmehood. Her work has been shown in exhibitions at The Victoria and Albert Museum, London, UK; Somerset House, London, UK; Minneapolis Institute of Art, MN; The High Museum, Atlanta, GA; The Brooklyn Museum, NY; The Art Institute of Chicago, IL; Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, Atlanta, GA; MoMA PS1, New York, NY; and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY. In addition to her FWM residency, Wood has undertaken a residency at The Studio Museum in Harlem, New York, NY. Her works are included in the collections of The Art Institute of Chicago, IL; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; The Rennie Collection, Vancouver, Canada; RISD Museum, Providence, RI; The Studio Museum in Harlem, NY; Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, CA; Cranbrook Art Museum, MI; and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX. Wood received her BA from the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI and her MA from Cranbrook Academy of Fine Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI. Her work is represented by Pippy Houldsworth Gallery.
David Hartt (b. 1967, Montréal, Canada) lives and works in Philadelphia where he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Pennsylvania. His work explores how historic ideas and ideals persist or transform over time. Recent exhibitions include Metabolic Rift at the Georg Kolbe Museum in Berlin, Germany; Les gratte-ciels par la racine at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, Canada; After the End of the World: Pictures from Panafrica at The Art Institute of Chicago, IL; and Widening the Lens: Photography, Ecology, and the Contemporary Landscape, organized by the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, PA. Hartt’s work is included in several public collections including The Art Institute of Chicago, IL; The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, CA; Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, Canada; The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; The National Gallery of Canada, The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, Netherlands; The Studio Museum in Harlem, NY; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY.
