CraftNOW Create: Stories by the Yard

November 7, 2020
10:00 am

Craft steps out of the studio and into the hearts of Philadelphians with CraftNOW Create!

On Saturday, November 7th, CraftNOW will be hosting an online virtual party with activities led by educators from the American Swedish Historical Museum, The Center for Art in Wood, The Clay Studio, The Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, University of the Arts and Wild Hand. This year organizers are creating 500 take-home kits filled with craft activities!

During this Philadelphia-wide celebration, FWM educators will share Stories by the Yard, featuring the real story of how local artist and kite maker Alice Thompson created her design for Brick Atmosphere. Help us bring her yardage to life through sound, gesture, play, and hands-on kite making!

Stories by the Yard is an interactive storytelling event and hands on art workshop for young children, school groups, camps, and families. Every season FWM invites artists from around the world to be Apprentices. The Apprentices come to FWM for three months to learn the process of printing three color repeat patterns on fabric. They translate their own stories, feelings, and perspectives into pattern designs to create their own yardage.
