K-12 Onsite Studio Programs

Discovering screenprinting in an FWM Onsite Studio Program, 5th grade, Community Partnership School, 2018.

The Onsite Studio program extends art-making activities that take place through our Apprentice Training Programs and Artist-in-Residence program to the school environment. FWM places a Teaching Artist with a partnering K-12 school once a week for 5-10 sessions. We collaborate with teachers to design a project that reflects class curriculum or requests and integrate the project into the techniques FWM is best known for: screenprinting, sewing, dyeing, etc. We also incorporate our contemporary art exhibits as a source of inspiration for Teaching Artist residencies.

Onsite Studio residencies incorporate a field trip to FWM where students create in our professional screenprinting studio and visit our contemporary art galleries with an interactive guided tour. The program also encourages the organization of a culminating event, where the final project will be presented and celebrated with participants.

FWM often partners with schools and teachers to apply for grants that help fund Onsite Studio Teaching Artist residencies, such as the PCCY grant. If you or your school is interested in participating, please contact Christina Roberts, Director of Education, at christina@fabricworkshopandmuseum.org or 215.561.8888.

Onsite Studio is made possible with generous contributions from the Dolfinger McMahon Foundation, PCCY Picasso Grant, the Philadelphia Arts in Education Partnership, and the Christopher Ludwick Foundation.
