Please join us on Friday, April 9 at 6 pm for the virtual opening of Hard/Cover (April 9-September 26, 2021), presented in collaboration with The Clay Studio. This event will also celebrate Hard/Cover’s sister exhibition, Elisabeth Kley: Minutes of Sand (March 5-August 15, 2021). The opening will feature a virtual tour of Hard/Cover and interviews with artists Woody De Othello, Jane Irish, Elisabeth Kley, Mark Barrow & Sarah Parke, and Shino Takeda.

Focusing on the relationship between screenprinting and ceramics, and spanning era, media, and distance, Hard/Cover is both retrospective and forward looking. Artists working today (De Othello, Irish, Parke & Barrow, and Takeda) were invited to print new yardage utilizing FWM’s world-renowned screenprinting facilities. They drew inspiration from artworks from the FWM Collection by Louise Bourgeois, Viola Frey, Toshiko Takaezu, and Betty Woodman, which will also be on display alongside loaned objects.

Minutes of Sand is Elisabeth Kley’s first solo museum show and features an entirely new body of work, including screenprinted fabric made in collaboration with FWM’s Studio.
