For this special evening event, presented by the African American Museum in Philadelphia and The Fabric Workshop and Museum, artist Sonya Clark will delve into the symbols and sounds of American and African American history with renowned musicians Regina Carter and Jason Moran, and conversation moderator Dr. Guthrie Ramsey of the University of Pennsylvania. Reflecting on past and current artistic collaborations, this group will engage the audience with sound and conversation that speaks to the intrinsic connections between the body, music, and memory.
The interdisciplinary program will feature virtuoso violinist Regina Carter performing Dreadlock, Hairbow and excerpts of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” by Jason Moran. Join us to consider the ways identity is woven through image, cloth, text, and sound to merge sensory experience with historic symbols—an exploration and celebration of artistic expression and African American identity.
