Printing an Endless Sky: Traditional Indian Block Printing with Padmini Govind

Back by popular demand! This day-long workshop, presented in partnership with CraftNow, will explore the art of Indian woodblock printing. Hosted in FWM’s printing studio, participants will be led by Padmini Govind of Tharangini Studios, a family-run textile printing studio in Bangalore, India, committed to fair trade practices and uplifting local artisan communities. Using beautiful hand-carved blocks from Tharangini’s archive, participants will learn to print with both natural dyes and textile pigments while developing a silk scarf and cotton tote bag. Workshop size is limited to 25 participants; early registration is encouraged to secure a spot.

About the Participants

Padmini Govind runs a family-owned heritage hand block print studio, Tharangini Studio. Specializing in fine block printing for designers in India and around the globe—such as Anthropologie, Pollack, Starbucks, Trenery and Good Earth—Govind’s passion is to support handblock printing in a holistic way, with fair trade, eco-friendly and sustainable practices. She has also started several vocational training projects for Autism centers in Bangalore, providing vital employment options for youth in need. Tharangini has partnered with Karnataka State Women’s Welfare center and other non-profits that provide dignity in work for women who are otherwise marginalized.
