Opening Reception

Celebrate Artists Moki Cherry and Lisa Alvarado

September 25, 2025
6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

A poster that reads "You're Invited" featuring two stacked images. The top artwork is of a fabric-based dragon with three eyes staring directly at the viewer. The face is cartoonish and mostly symmetrical, with different colors of fabric emanating outwardly from its nose. It has a large red upper lip that bows upward, with colorful tassels hanging under its teeth. The lower image is of an abstract tapestry dyed yellow and red with lines drawn in white lace. Abstract diamond and rectilinear spiral patterns radiate outward from a half moon shape at the bottom of the composition.

Be among the first to experience two fall season exhibitions organized by Ars Nova Workshop in partnership with The Fabric Workshop and Museum:

The Living Temple: The World of Moki Cherry is a major retrospective centered around Swedish visual artist and designer Moki Cherry (1943–2009). The exhibition brings together textiles, tapestries, paintings and drawings, concert posters, clothing, ceramics, sculpture, music, video, and archival materials to explore her omnivorous and omnipresent creativity. Building on the artist’s collaborative and multi-sensory approach, this presentation tells the story of Moki’s visionary process.

Lisa Alvarado: Talismans for a Theater of Resilience is the culminating work of the artist’s FWM residency. In collaboration with the FWM Studio, Alvarado experimented with sculptural fabric assemblage, screenprinting, and dyeing techniques to create two monumental hanging tapestries that will be layered with kinetic sound and tinted daylight. Weaving together ancestral memory, natural cycles, and collective histories, she creates a space of resistance, community, and renewal.

Light refreshments will be served.

Both exhibitions run September 25, 2025 through April 12, 2026.
