Soft Moons in the Garden: Toshiko Takaezu

June 24, 2021
11:00 am to 1:00 pm

Toshiko Takaezu (center) working with FWM studio technicians on “Moonballs,” 1992.

When Toshiko Takaezu came to The Fabric Workshop and Museum, she drew endless circles on cloth. These circular designs became the pattern pieces for Moon Balls, currently featured in the Hard/Cover exhibition. For Takaezu, the moon held the mystery of its own fullness, like the seeds in her beloved garden held the mystery of what they might become. After a tour of Hard/Cover—with a focus on Takaezu’s work—participants will explore monoprinting moon patterns, leaving with their own gardening apron to carry their seeds, cuttings, and tools!
