About the Participants

A portrait of Anthony Folks, a young Black man with a bucket hat and short-sleeve white button-down shirt. He is standing in front of a printed artwork with hands reaching inward toward a blue water-like environment.

Anthony Folks is a multidisciplinary artist and dedicated museum educator. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) and a Master’s degree in Art Education from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). As an artist and educator, his practice is deeply rooted in ethnography and anthropology, responding to research and his immediate surroundings. Anthony identifies as a “material culture maker,” creating art that is informed by cultural contexts. This methodology allows him to use human-crafted objects and environments as tools for understanding and exploration through art-based research. Anthony serves as the Teen Engagement Coordinator at the Fabric Workshop and Museum, where he works to inspire and mentor young artists.
