Connections in Clay with Dominique Ellis

This workshop relates to FWM’s past Artists-in-Residence—Jun Kaneko, Viola Frey, Betty Woodman and Toshiko Takaezu—who defined FWM in the early years by translating their patterns on clay into the medium of screen-printing on fabric. Guest artist Dominique Ellis of The Clay Studio, Philadelphia will lead participants in screen-printing images on clay tiles. The tiles will be fired offsite and ready for pick up at FWM on Saturday, March 10, 2018.

About Dominique Ellis
Dominique Ellis explores the intersections of pattern through printmaking, ceramics and textile design. For over a decade, her visual practice and research investigates sociolinguistics, architecture and global craft traditions. She is a visual artist and researcher and is currently the Retail Manager and Gallery Coordinator at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, PA. Ellis received her M.F.A. in Printmaking at Tyler School of Art in 2013. She was awarded a U.S. Fulbright student scholarship for Egypt, as well as an Arabic language grant for 2009-2010 and was based in Cairo, Egypt. She served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco, from 2006-2008, working for the Moroccan Ministry of Handicrafts.
