In partnership with CraftNow, FWM presents a lecture by Padmini Govind of Tharangini Studios, her family-run block printing business in Bangalore, India devoted to preserving the cultural heritage of traditional textile block printing with an innovative business model. Started by Padmini’s mother in 1977, Tharangini Studio is committed to fair trade, environmental sustainability and outreach programs with specially-abled artisans at Autism centers in Bangalore. A trunk show will follow the presentation, featuring some of the studio's exquisite block printed textiles.

About Padmini Govind

Padmini Govind runs a family-owned heritage hand block print studio, Tharangini Studio. Specializing in fine block printing for designers in India and around the globe—such as Anthropologie, Pollack, Starbucks, Trenery and Good Earth—Govind’s passion is to support handblock printing in a holistic way, with fair trade, eco-friendly and sustainable practices. She has also started several vocational training projects for Autism centers in Bangalore, providing vital employment options for youth in need. Tharangini has partnered with Karnataka State Women's Welfare center and other non-profits that provide dignity in work for women who are otherwise marginalized.
